About Steven Green
Steven D. Green founded Green Law Group. Before law school he worked inside hospital operating rooms, training surgeons on spine and cardiac devices. He then graduated cum laude from Loyola University Chicago School of Law and practiced injury law in Chicago before opening the firm in San Diego.
Steven handles personal injury, medical malpractice and wrongful death cases for people across California. The firm works from its San Diego office and takes cases in all 58 California counties.
He believes injured people should be free to focus on getting better. His job is to handle the insurers, the paperwork and the legal fight so clients do not carry that weight during recovery.
Practice areas Steven handles
Steven represents injured people and families throughout California in these kinds of cases:
Education and bar admissions
- Loyola University Chicago School of Law. Graduated cum laude and was on the Dean's List for his entire time in law school. He also earned a certificate in Health Law.
- Miami University, Oxford, Ohio. Undergraduate degree.
- State Bar of California. License #298398, admitted September 2014. You can confirm his status on the State Bar of California attorney profile.
- Illinois. Also admitted to practice law in Illinois.
The Health Law certificate focused his legal training on the same world he had worked in: hospitals, medical providers and the rules that govern patient care.
Medical device and operating-room background
After college, Steven was a manager for several medical device companies. He worked in operating rooms where those devices were used and trained surgeons, doctors and medical staff to use them, mostly in spine surgery and cardiac surgery.
The companies he worked for used advanced surgical technology. His role put him in the room during procedures, alongside the surgeons and operating-room teams he was training.
Procedures and technologies he worked with
- Percutaneous spinal fusion devices (minimally invasive lumbar fusion)
- CO2 cardiac lasers (open-heart surgery)
- SPY intraoperative imaging
- Microdiscectomy
- Anterior cervical discectomy and fusion
- Lumbar and cervical total disc replacement
- Anterior and lateral lumbar fusion
- Posterior cervical discectomy and laminectomy
- Minimally invasive spine surgery
Working in multiple hospitals and training surgeons and key operating-room staff gave Steven a working knowledge of standard hospital policies and procedures. It also gave him a close view of the standards of care in complex areas of medicine.
That time taught him something else too: what patients and their families go through after an injury, a medical mistake or the loss of someone they love.
Legal career
Before founding Green Law Group, Steven practiced all types of personal injury law at several Chicago-area firms. That work included mass tort litigation in multidistrict litigation (MDL) over defective medical products, specifically artificial hip implants.
The hip implant cases drew directly on his device background. Defective product claims turn on how a device was designed, how it was implanted and what went wrong afterward, and Steven had spent years in operating rooms working with surgical devices and the surgeons who use them.
He found that his medical background fit personal injury work well. He also found the work satisfying, because it means helping people through one of the hardest stretches of their lives. He went on to found Green Law Group in San Diego, where he works alongside attorney Robert Sibilia and the rest of our team.
Why his background matters for your case
Injury claims are proven with medical records. Steven reads operative reports, imaging and treatment notes with the eye of someone who has stood in the operating room. That helps him explain an injury clearly to an insurer, a mediator or a jury.
Medical records
An insurer values a claim from the records. Steven knows what a surgeon's operative report should say, what imaging findings mean and where gaps in treatment can hurt a claim. He reads those records the way the defense's medical reviewers do.
Standards of care
A medical malpractice case asks whether a doctor, nurse or hospital met the standard of care. Steven spent years training surgeons on how specific procedures and devices are supposed to be used, and he knows how hospitals are run day to day.
Spine and nerve injuries
Many of the procedures he worked with, including microdiscectomy, cervical fusion, disc replacement and laminectomy, are the same surgeries people face after a serious crash or fall. If you are dealing with a spinal cord injury, a back injury or a neck injury, he understands what your surgeon is recommending and why.
Future care
Spine surgery can mean months of recovery, work restrictions and the chance of more treatment later. Steven makes sure your doctors document future care before you settle, because a signed release usually ends the claim. Every case is different, and no background guarantees a result.
